Kantipur TOUGH talk interviewed by Dil Bhusan Pathak with Prof. Dr. Meena Khadka. She has returned to Nepal to take up permeate position as the Chairperson of GATE’s Board after her most recent 3-year assignment at Harvard University, USA.
Dr. Khadka is a social entrepreneur who has traveled the world by first gaining her Master’s degree in India then on to the University of California – Berkley to pursue her doctoral degree. Over 25 years she has given lectures in 34 Universities including Stanford University, Columbia University, and Tokyo University and in the Sudan keeping true to her interest in the Himalayas and its people and issues. She is a modernist and her lecture topics include leadership, women empowerment, and entrepreneurship. She is also a gold medalist in her research on
“Contemporary Women’s Movement in South Asia”.
In her early years she was with Mother Teresa. She learned the gentle touch of compassion mixed with the rigor of professionalism was what was needed to bring about social change. She saw how one individual has the capacity to change the lives of others. This realization gave her, her life’s work. She seeks to empower individuals to find their strengths so they can be that “one” individual that can make a difference and that personal happiness can be measured on how you affect others’ lives.
When she teaches, she reaches into the soul of the student and says it is they, which could be the one, to make the difference. She strongly believes that Nepal can inspire the world through its nature, culture, heritage and people. With her position on GATE’s Board she comes into the heart of the College and will transfer her learning about being your best, not in a boastful way but in a humble way, as she knows …. In the end … it is one’s actions to lift others up, to find what brings them forth, that makes the difference.
